What is my purpose? (What am I suppose to be doing for the Kingdom of God?)
It’s the main question for a Christian, right?
It’s all about doing. And we actually like these questions because if we can know the “what”, then can do the “what” and we can check off the box that we did it. It’s tangible. Isn’t that why we love to-do lists? It’s easy. We simply do the thing and then we get to check off the box. We feel accomplished, productive and purposeful.
I am a DOER. I get things done. And I get things done efficiently. It’s a gifting, but it can also be a huge hinderance to my growth as a Christ-follower. You see, everything Christ intends for our good, Satan intends for his evil. If the enemy can keep me busy then he’s got me distracted from my real purpose which is exactly his intention. I fell for his trap a good part of my Christian life.
Until I got really tired and exhausted and confused. I was doing all good things and I was even doing ministry things but I wasn’t doing the ONE thing that is the MOST IMPORTANT THING.
Let’s pause here.
Turn to Psalms 46:10 and read what God has to say about your “doing”. (Yes, I’m encouraging you to take just a minute to look up this verse and read it from the pages yourself.)
The command is simple and clear. No need to complicate it (although there is a lot to be studied about this passage).
So what?
What are we to do with this command? Easier said than done, yes? I certainly can agree with that! Our human nature pulls us to continue “doing”, but what if we start focusing on “knowing” instead?
