If a simpler life is what you are after, this simple strategy is required – Pause. I know, it’s going to be hard for you. It’s hard for me. To be honest, it’s one of the most challenging things in my life. You see, I’m wired to move. From my conversations with many women over the years, that is true for most of us. That is what makes us “busy women”. I used to believe that my “busy” tendencies were a hinderance the enemy used against me. That was a lie the enemy was telling me. I believe that God made women to move, to accomplish, to produce, to achieve at high levels. Those traits are evident in the Proverbs 31 Woman.
If these are God given traits and tendencies, why do they so often seem to get in the way of our best life (you know, the one God created us to live)? The answer is simple to me – we refuse to PAUSE. Yes, “refuse” is a strong word, but I use it intentionally because I really do refuse to pause much of the time. My flesh resists it with all my stubborn might. Can you relate to that type of stubbornness? It’s not our tendencies to move, to produce, to achieve that is ungodly, it’s our refusal to PAUSE and seek God first.
Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that He knows the plans He has for us. We are told if we search for Him with all our heart we will seek Him and we will find Him. Seeking Him, Finding Him, Searching for Him requires a PAUSE. That’s where we mess up, and that’s why our lives a chaotic and congested mess.
You have to PAUSE before you can MOVE FORWARD.
So put down your goals and your resolutions and just PAUSE. Ask God to reveal His plans for you first. Once you have taken this simple yet challenging step, you’ll be on your way to a simpler life. I’m going there. Won’t you join me?
