Tell me something. When you make a call to someone, what do you expect to happen once they accept your call? Of course, you expect to hear the word “Hello”. It would certainly take you by surprise if anything other than that happened, right? You aren’t wishing they might say “Hello” once they answer, you are expecting it. There is no other option in your mind other than a “Hello” response.
Discerning the voice of God is less about gaining better active listening skills and more about preparing ourselves to hear His voice.
The second step in preparing ourselves to listen for God’s voice is to be expectant. (View Step 1 HERE). Since we expect the person on the other end of the phone to say “Hello”, should we expect any less from God when we go to Him for direction? I say NOT! He desperately wants to answer us. But first we must be prepared to listen.
There is a monumental different between wishful thinking and expecting. Are you wishing or are you expecting?
